Marble vs Porcelain vs Quartz

Three materials, one expert supplier — everything you need to choose

Natural vs Artificial

Feature Natural Stone (Marble & Granite) Porcelain (Atlas Plan) Engineered Quartz
Appearance Unique veining, luminous depth, light penetrates surface — every slab one of a kind Consistent patterns, can replicate marble looks Consistent patterns, printed designs, uniform appearance
Durability Marble 3-4 Mohs, granite 6-7 Mohs — refreshed with a simple polish Extremely hard, scratch and stain resistant Hard (7 Mohs), scratch resistant, 15-25 year lifespan
Maintenance Periodic sealing, pH-neutral cleaners — easily re-polished to look brand new Near-zero maintenance, any cleaner No sealing, wipe clean, low maintenance
Heat Resistance Excellent — stays naturally cool, handles hot pots well Excellent — hot pans directly on surface Moderate — resin binders damaged above 150°C
Outdoor Use Yes — proven for 2,500+ years in all climates Yes — UV-stable, frost-resistant No — UV causes fading and resin degradation
Lifespan Infinite — the Parthenon: 2,500 years and counting 20+ years (modern material) 15-25 years (manufacturer warranty)
Sustainability 100% natural, fully recyclable, low-energy extraction Kiln-fired, recyclable, energy-intensive Petroleum-based resins, energy-intensive, hard to recycle
Resale Value Proven to increase property value — a hallmark of quality Neutral impact on resale Neutral impact on resale
Format Blocks, slabs, tiles, custom cuts Large-format slabs up to 162×324cm, 6-20mm Standard slabs, limited sizes

Different Strengths for Different Needs

Natural stone — marble and granite — is proven across millennia. The Parthenon stands as testimony. It can be re-polished to look brand new in hours, increases property resale value, and never needs replacing.

Porcelain is cutting-edge Italian engineering — enormous formats up to 162×324cm with minimal joints, UV-stable, virtually indestructible.

Quartz is consistent and low-maintenance — a practical choice for busy households that want a uniform surface.

Natural or artificial — we supply all of them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Atlas Plan is a premium Italian brand producing large-format porcelain slabs up to 162×324cm in thicknesses from 6mm to 20mm. Dionyssomarble, through Nordia Marble, is the exclusive Atlas Plan distributor in Greece. These slabs are engineered for extreme durability, UV stability, and near-zero maintenance.

Both can approximate marble patterns visually, but neither replicates the natural depth, warmth, and translucency of real stone. Natural marble has subsurface light scattering — light enters the crystal matrix, scatters beneath the surface, and returns transformed. This luminous, three-dimensional quality is impossible to print or engineer. Every slab of natural marble is also truly one of a kind.

Natural marble and porcelain are both excellent outdoors. Marble has proven itself for 2,500+ years in Mediterranean climate and develops beautiful golden patina over time. Porcelain is UV-stable and frost-resistant. Quartz is NOT suitable for outdoor use — UV exposure causes colour fading and degradation of the polyester resin binders.

Absolutely — it's one of the most popular approaches. Natural marble for focal areas (entries, feature walls, master bathrooms) where you want authentic luxury. Porcelain for high-traffic zones, outdoor terraces, and pool areas where durability is paramount. Quartz for utility spaces where zero maintenance matters most. We supply all three and help you plan the optimal combination.

Natural marble has the smallest footprint: 100% natural, fully recyclable, low-energy extraction — no resins, no factory processing beyond cutting and finishing. A marble surface can be repurposed or recycled indefinitely. Porcelain is kiln-fired clay, recyclable but energy-intensive to produce. Quartz surfaces are ~93% crushed quartz bound with petroleum-based polyester resins — energy-intensive manufacturing, and the resin binders make recycling difficult.
